The Shires Waterford Dutch Gag is a 3 ring Dutch Gag which applies pressure to the poll, the amount of pressure and leverage is controlled by the rider and the use of the 3 rings; the lower the ring the more leverage and control the rider will have.
When using the Shires Waterford Dutch Gag two reins should be used; one on the main snaffle ring of the bit and the other on the second lower ring.
If only one rein is to be used then roundings should be used to help maintain a better contact with the horses mouth.
The Waterford Mouth is a multiple jointed bit with a chain type mouthpiece that has ball shaped links. As the Waterford mouthpiece has many links, it is considered a severe bit as the pressure is distributed over the tongue and bars of the mouth.
The Waterford is ideal for horses who try to lean or pull on the bit; the bit is fully moveable and collapses if the horse tries to lean on it.
